Jumper

Don’t see this movie! We’ll, that is the opinion of my girlfriend and I at least. The trailers made it seem cool and hip and jazzy and whatever else those young kids say these days, but it wasn’t! Everything bordered on cheesy and the movie just tried to do too much. Wanted though, that looks like a sweet movie.

As a side note, is there any new feature you would like to see on the site? Is there anything that would make the site easier for you to use? I’m just curious =) I’ve been wanting to code something for the site, but just haven’t quite figured out what.

-Justin

PS I’ve been meaning to post this gif that an old fan of ours, Mike Chapman, made when we turned one year old:

For the unfamiliar, Mike is also referencing Drew’s Jokes With Einstein series. Thanks, Mike!

Well, phooey. I was looking forward to going to that movie. I have to say though, I'm about to the point that if the trailer for a movie is TOO exciting, I'll not even go to the movie. It seems they put all the best parts of the movies in the trailers! Gragh!

I booked tickets to see jumper next week :( .

I'm glad you posted the Einstein link, I like it. And I like Drew's taste in music. Q and Not U = good.

Hey Justin, you could totally make a "random" button for the site, like in between the next! and prev! buttons. I've seen some on other comic sites and they're really corking, as they direct you to a random comic! I would totally grok that, but it's just my idea for a feature.

xkcd.com and questionablecontent.net are some examples of comic sites that utilize these random buttons.

    • justin says:

Exactly! I actually just realized earlier that we didn't have a random button, so that is totally doable. It's also good for people who are new to the site and wanna poke around a little bit. Expect to see that button in the next couple days =)

  4. Mike Chapman says:

No, you should see the first eight minutes and look for a girl in a blue hat in the background. That's my friend Kelly! She lives in Detroit where that scene was filmed (woohoo Michigan!), so she got to be an extra. It's right when he falls in the lake or river thingy and jumps out of it. After seeing the girl in the blue hat you may immediately leave and demand your money back.

P.S. Thanks Drew and Justin for posting my gif!

    • Drew says:

Poor, poor Detroit. A major motion picture is filmed on its streets and then apparently the movie is awful (if we all decide to take Justin's word, anyhow). I didn't know Jumper was filmed in Detroit, but I concur on your statement of 'woohoo'.

      Thanks, Mike! : )

I actually thought Jumper was fairly good. I think it could have been a lot better, maybe if they explained more of it, but I still thought it was a good film. Just my opinion here.

  6. Sarah says:

Jumper was not a good movie, but it shows how far we've come in terms of science fiction young adult stories turned movies, because this was at least mediocre.

This is the dual curse of Rami's Spiderman– most superhero movies will be pretty similar in setup, so they'll be much better than something like Punisher, but they'll be like a much worse Spiderman, hokey boyish unnecessary narration and all.

  7. Veda says:

so, i really miss jokes with einstein.

been looking forward to a new one for godknowshowlong.

    maybe one dedicated to LHT?

    this site is excellent though.

    superb.

  8. Dason says:

How about a feature where we add our own works to the site, if that's possible?

Maybe even integrate one of those online "paint" flash games.

  9. Moop :D says:

Maybe you could have the most popular toons in a little box someplace so people can poke around at some of the awesome-est ones :) i've seen it on other sites and it seems to work pretty well…

  10. Pinka says:

at first i was excited about Jumper but then everyone seems to not have liked it. and i would rather take the $10 and go see Romero's Diary of the Dead. zombies.

random button would be awesome. and a gallery with fan art? ooh or a forum?

  11. Sara says:

Is Mike Chapman, your "old fan", also Mike Chapman, one half of The Brothers Chaps? The makers of Homestar Runner? If so, that's awesome. If not… he might still be awesome. That's a pretty common name, but maybe, just maybe they're the same person.

    • Mike Chapman says:

No, I am 1/4 of A Brother's Chap, but I had nothing to do with homestar runner, unfortunatley. But your right, I am incredably awesome.

I don't know if I'd consider myself an "old fan." I'm only 18 :P. I was around to see the release of TPN 3, but according to spinnerdisc that particular episode is still "new." I've been a fan since… God, I don't even remember. I wanna say early 2006, maybe late 2005…. All I know was that I was at my cousin's house when I discovered it, so that means Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, or the 4th of July…. /ponder

Anywhoo, if you've been around longer that late '05/early '06, you may proudly declare yourself and "older" fan than me. The same applies for to any fan born after October 25, 1989.

      • Mike Chapman says:

okay, my first paragraph is a bit confusing. I am no way related to nor have I ever encountered (to the best of my knowledge) the creators of omestar runner. My last name is Chapman and I have 2 1/2 brothers, none of which or computer literate enough to make flash cartoons. So sorry, I can't get you singed photos (unless you want one of me, in which case I would be glad to oblige)

      • Mike Chapman says:

        I mean before

(D&J, may I suggest an "edit" feature for the blog posts ;)…)

        • Mike Chapman says:

Okay, the last comment didn't go where I wanted it too. the "I mean before" refers to my initial reply to this thread, when I stated that anyone born after blablabla is older than me, which is obviously not true. Quite the opposite actually… I'll stop now

      • Sara says:

Thank you for that rather long explanation. :P I know another Mike Chapman who is also not a creator of Homestar Runner. Well, I've never asked. So maybe he is.

  12. Matt says:

    I think I e-mailed you about this, Justin, but I don't remember.

You should have a seperate comments section for the cartoon that appears below the cartoon (where the blog is) and maybe put blog updates on a seperate page.

Or, put cartoon comments on a seperate page and leave the blog where it is. Something like that.

  13. Andy Kelley says:

Justin! Make a search box! It would be cool if it searched the text of the comic as well as the title, and the text under it, if any. If you needed help on how to code this I could help; also I would help you index your site!

    • Heidi says:

You mean add keywords to each comic so that you could find the one you wanted to read?

That would be very helpful, especially if the name is very abstract.

  14. Jackson says:

If there's one thing Jumper did right, it's kickin' teleporting action sequences. Unfortunately, that's pretty much the only thing it did right–which is a shame, because the premise had a lot of potential.

  15. April says:

So yeah. Jumper=lame. I was so excited about it (even though it had Mannequin Skywalker in it– I should trust my instincts about him!) and it felt like a big fat yawn.

I mean, I love what's her bucket, Diane Lane, but can you say tacked on oh-crap-we-have-no-story-omg-mommy-issues storyline?

    Well, can you??

  16. Tomtomtom says:

I saw Jumper in theatres, and I wanted to walk out, but it was a friend's birthday and he's not into that kind of thing so we had to sit through the rest of it, even though 5/7 of us wanted to leave. D:
