My Monitor

I think my monitor is about to die. I’ve noticed that the colors are a good amount duller than my tv and my monitors at work. There is also this new very subtle scrolling pattern when it’s displaying a mostly white screen. It’s an old school 19 inch CRT, so it takes up a huge portion of my desk. I’ll be glad once it’s gone, but I remember spending a good amount of money on this a while back. Do you guys still have CRTs?

I have a fancy CRT about 19". It still works beautifully, much better than any LCD I have seen. The fact that I got it in the 90's seems to not matter.

You should definitely learn the force so you don't need a new monitor.

PS: I just found this website. It is a wonderful webcomic. You guys should definitely keep churning out new comics for the rest of eternity.

  3. Uh...I have no name. says:

Yups. My comp still has a dinasaur for a monitor!!

  4. Meg says:

I have one in my shed…

  5. Neep says:

I've got a 21" CRT. I love it, nice and clear, and it keeps me happy. I could get an LCD, but I built my desk for this buggar, I don't know what I could possibly do with the extra two feet of space behind the monitor.

  6. Matt says:

22" LCD i got on Black Friday for like 230 bucks. Has lasted me years travelling between school and home, so i'd say it's a good monitor.

  7. Panda says:

i do… a 17" which was bought in… 1999 or someth… maybe 98… but it lives =D even after dropping it at least 4 times. take that, fancypancy "lookatmeandhowthiniamandhoweasilyibreakwhentouchedbya5yearold"-monitors!

Actually LCD's are pretty strong, I threw my remote at mine the other day because my cable stopped working and the remote only left a smudge that wiped right off.

  8. Pinka says:

yep. nice 19"er. bought it off my roomie for $40. well worth it. except it takes up ALL the space on my dresser [which doubles as my desk] so now i have my keyboard on my lap ;)

congrats on the anniversary. *tips hat* very nice job.

I use a laptop, so no.

I just woke up and I read the first line as "I think my mother is about to die". The smile that your comic gave me quickly disappeared. Most CRTs are only supposed to live for about 2-4 years, I think.

  10. ilikejam says:

Yup. Big old Sun Microsystems 21" Trinitron. It's glorious and huge.

  11. Blue says:

I have a black 17" ViewSonic; it came with my Dell in 2003, which is what I still use today. The colors are great but I always dirty my screen by accident.

  12. goerge says:

Yeah I used to have a huge CRT and i paid a good amount for it too. Then a couple of months ago it just stopped working so i bought a LCD monitor and realized my desk is a lot bigger than i thought it was

  13. S says:

Right now my family is using my laptop until we can afford a new desktop, so not at the moment, but sitting in the basement we do have the CTR monitors from our 3 old computers which have died (all within about 3 months of each other).

  14. Greg says:

two 21 incher CRTs that weigh like, 180lbs together. its like having two fat midgets on your desk that emit light and porn.

  15. Chris says:

one 15" crt and one 15"lcd. I used to have 2 15"s barely fitting on my desk, but after about 9 years of faithful service, one crapped out on me. (yay excuse to get a new lcd monitor!) : (

  16. TCR says:

Let's see… three CRTS that we use regularly, one LCD that doesn't get used much, and one LCD that doesn't work at all.

    I can't help but see a pattern here…

  17. Kharnen says:

well to be truthful i have 8 17" CRTs 7 of them are basically used as paper-weights and backup :P but my good one is a Good 'ol Trinitron that is about 6 years old but even that is soon to join its brethren in paper-weighty goodness when i get my brand new 23" CRT (i hate LCD)

  18. retsoksirhc says:

I dug out a CRT for my server, but my PC has a 23" LCD, and my work computer has a 19" LCD. My test monitor at work is a 17" LCD.

  19. Tyler says:

got myself 2 in my room, work perfectly, 2 bad i dont hav a comp to use them in, currently im deciding if i should keep those bad boys and let them collect dust , take them apart and end up breaking them or get 2 old computers and make a LAN server to play StarCraft… so many ideas

  20. MennoW says:

hahaha would be very funne, a laptop with a CRT xD

yes, i use a laptop, im in college now, when i can afford it ill buy a desktop asap, cus gaming on a laptop isnt the best thing you can do ;)

@Tyler, WAAAAAAAAAH Starcraft! ^_^ gief! lanning oldskool games is awesome!

a couple weeks ago in my school we had a retrogame LANparty, we got with about 20 people, installed dosbox, got some old dosgames, and there we went, playing DOOM 1, Duke Nukem, Warcraft1 and other oldskool games. cooping dukenukem is very funny :')

Monitor! At first I thought you said mother. Whoops  Love the comic, been reading for months(about 8-10). Great job guys, keep up the good work :D !

  22. Moop :D says:

Yeah… it still works :) so it's all good lol… btw the anniversary comic was rather amusing :P

  23. tapeworms says:

i use a teletuby as my computer monitor

  24. Nyx says:

Have you tried degaussing it? (somewhere in the screen menues there is a thingie that looks like a crossed over horseshoe magnet, in case you don't know what it looks like)

  25. The Highlander says:

I used to have a tube monitor. I don't remember how big it was, but if you really want me to, I will go and measure it. When it began to die, the screen turned a transparent shade of violet. As days went on, the violet became darker.

I got my brother's old flatscreen. Not the best, but it works. And all the colours are correct, so I am content with it.

  26. Mai says:

haha, love the comic. That's like whenever my brother tries to cook XD

  27. spuffler says:

I'm just now getting out of CRT things (36" HD LCD, 19" LCD monitor). I have a 19" RGB monitor that can do 1024×768 if you want to come get it. Was last used on a Mac Quadra 605, doing Desktop publishing.

  28. goober says:

I do not use a monitor. I peer into a giant holograph sustained within a magic clamshell.

  29. mark! says:

i have a 16" from like the late 90's. its takes up too much space and i wanna buy a new one :/.

  30. Peanut Foot says:

I had a 15" CRT for a while until I swapped it for a 20" LCD. I miss it, though.

  31. Tall Guy says:

since I got a new computer about 5 years ago, I also bought a new monitor w/ it. I remember how much I loved all the extra space, plus now I don't have to keep my keyboard in an uncomfy position :)

  32. Tea! says:

Well if you do decided to get a new monitor, I think LCDs use less energy, so they are better for the environment =)!

As for me I have one chunky monitor, which I assume means CRT, and one thin monitor. As for the sizes I couldn't tell you, apparently I don't appreciate monitors that much. But I think I like my LCD better.

By the way I love your comics. As a natural born south paw, I would say you two do a pretty good job of drawing as lefties!

  33. BOB DOLE says:

    GUYS.

    COME ON.

    ITS BEEN LIKE

TWO WEEKS SINCE YOU GUYS UPDATED.

    I NEED SOME LAUGHTER DAMMIT.

lol But yea, seriously, You guys make me laugh so hard.

    Funny Funny Funny.

  34. I get free ones on Craigslist from people and sell them on Ebay. Is that wrong?
