Stupid XBox 360

So I bought a used 360 a couple months back. Things were glorious for a while as I played my games and was content with the world. And then, as I was rocking out with some Guitar Hero, my screen started turning red. Turned off the system and started it back up to only have no video! Well, I did the towel trick (you wrap the system in a towel until it overheats and it supposedly remelts solder points) and it fixed it!

Things were good once again, until of course, the same thing happened again. And again. Now I have to repair it myself because I opened it up previously for, ahem, some other reason =) Stupid thing. That system has a horrible failure rate. A co-worker of mine got the RRoD and had to send his back.

I like my PS3 and Wii though =P

Video game systems are becoming too much like computers now. You can pretty much just save your money for a nice video card, and even plug in the xbox controller into your usb port and play games on your PC!

    • justin says:

You can even plug in a guitar hero controller to the computer and its recognized. Consoles are definitely becoming more like computers, but I like it. It means they are slowly becoming well developed media centers, amongst other things.

Super Smash Bros Brawl! =) Sorry, saw your link and got excited.

The only PC compatible accessory is an EyeToy (for PS2). Unless you want to count computer accessories used on my video games, and then I have a 160 gig hard drive to store media and games on. Yay Swapmagic!

My XBox seems to have some issues of it's own. (surprised?) For some reason, it will load 90% of my games without fail, every single time. On the other hand, whenever I insert The Orange Box, Call of Duty 3, or CoD 4 I get an error messege informing me that in order to play these games, I must insert them into an XBox 360 console…well duh. The only way I can get it to read these discs as games is to turn the console onto its side, insert the disc, and then stand the console back upright again. Maybe I should have waited for the PS3 after all.

    • Decanus says:

Copying the way to get around the PS2's disc read error I see? :P

Mine's had DRRs laid flat for three years, yet turn it on its side and it works a charm every time. I can't help but think that Sony saw this during preproduction and didn't want to waste their precious profits on producing a better product (saying that, nearly six and a half years and still going strong) so integrated a simple solution into their design.

And when you have Project64 and an adaptable XBOX controller, who needs a N64 anymore?

      • justin says:

I remember when I had to flip my ps2 upside down in order to get it to read discs. I replaced the laser on that 4 times and the whole drive tray assembly once. The laser is dead again, but I think it's time for me to just buy a new ps2. I got it a month after launch, so I think it hung in there decently well.

Ahhh Project 64. I played Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye with that and a controller. Good stuff =)

  4. Justin (hehe not the says:

Buying used is never a good idea…I bought my 360 new and have yet to have any problems with it.

  5. Pinka says:

the only reason we bought the 360 was so that we could stream all our movies from the main computer instead of having to plug the VGA cable from the laptop to the projector. but for months it gave us trouble and then a RRoD. yet when we got it back, we managed to get it all to work. now we can stream all our TV shows and movies fine. what i like though is the fact that there are updates on XBox Live for TRIALS OF GAMES! *shakes head*

my PS2 is slowly dying. but it has put up with a lot more abuse than any of the other consoles in the house. and its no loss really, the only games it screws up are the SingStar games ;)

The only person I know to never have issues with their 360 is a cousin of mine who works for Microsoft. Oddly enough, he's told lots of people to get 360's because he loves his so much. Needless to say, he has quite a bit of guilt about that now.

I have an original launch PS2 that still works great though, and crazier still, an original launch PS1 that still works brand new. So screw you fancy pants bastards with your 360's, Wiis and PS3's, I'm gonna go play Jet Moto in all its crappy glory…

  7. Drew says:

Justin, you're an unscrupulous criminal. I'ma say just that.

'Cept also… "remelts solder points" ?? Are you freakin kidding?

  8. Tyler says:

haha, i like my sega dreamcast, NES, N64, wii and computer. used 2 hav Ps2…but well..we had 2 and they both died, and to whoever was talkin about SSBB, KICK ASS, im exited xD. but ya, i suggest a N64 emulator (project 64) for gaming, then it wont even melt or sum shit.

I just got a Wii. It was my birthday recently.

I've been whoring it a little.

I've never had a console fail on me to date. I feel lucky.

The only time my 360 ever gave me trouble was after it was in my car, which was in the snow and ice, for about 2 weeks. When I brought it in and plugged it in, there was some weird error. I rebooted it and all was right with the world again.

    • Decanus says:

The 360 felt like you left it outside in the cold… in more ways than one :)

My PSOne still works, just you need to put a brick on the disc tray lid as it won't close.

And on my spare PS2 controller, as I found out three hours ago, the R1 button popped out when I was playing Brian Lara International Cricket and now there's a bit of plastic somewhere about the left Dual Shock which I couldn't get out with a screwdriver.

Justin – upside down? Looks like I haven't played mine into the ground yet, how much longer until it gets to that extent, seeing as I have played and watched DVDs on it for about three hours a day for six years :P Another 1/4 rotation perhaps in 2014? :P

Hmm After blowing thru 2 Xbox in less than 2 years (no mods, no excessive play, very basic usage) I now recoil from consoles made by Microsuck. Not to sound like a fanboy but I got a Wii last year and haven't had a single problem, even after a 36 hour Guitar Hero marathon that left the console warm enough to reheat pizza. Plus when else in life will you have to opportunity to make jokes using the word Wii?

"Hey check out my Wii! Everyone loves my Wii! Come on I know you wanna touch my Wii." lol

I have a friend who's had to send back his 360 at least three times now, thanks to the fun red light error… and now Microsoft has completely screwed up his shipping address, so he's almost three months overdue for the latest replacement. He calls the return boxes "coffins."

The only reason I'd ever even consider getting a 360 would be for KotOR 3, if they ever release it… Star Wars FTW!

This site is amazing by the way, I laughed so hard at a couple comics I almost pissed myself. PLEASE keep updating!

  17. Y'know they're probably just gonna delete this.

  18. goblorzoid says:

Drew's comics are lightyears better in every way than Justin's. That's just the fact of it.
