Reality TV

I think I am totally sick of reality tv, specifically the competition ones that have emphasis on the relationships amongst competitors. You know, the show where they all compete and live with each other and complain about it. Bravo has Top Chef and Step Up and Dance, the CW has America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway just moved to Lifetime, and even Animal Planet has Groomer Has It. It’s just getting really old for me. They will never go away though because they are dirt cheap to make compared to the non-reality shows. I do have some respect for some of the competition shows that only focus on the competition. American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance come to mind.

Overall though, I could do without reality tv. The writer’s strike definitely didn’t help with this situation. I don’t hate them for it or anything. It just means we might have a bunch more reality shows for the next year because of the lack of writers for new shows or episodes.

Oh, and for the record, I don’t watch these reality shows by myself. My girlfriend enjoys them, so often I watch them with her =)

P.S from the girlfriend:
Don’t let Justin fool you. He actually loves reality T.V. shows. The only difference being that his involve watching someone play a video game for 2 hours straight on Gameplay HD. I’m  completely serious.

P.P.S from the girlfriend:
So You Think You Can Dance is pretty much the best show ever.

That was an extremely serious post, Justin. =|

    1) You guys are absolute geniuses. My friend sent me the link for this site and I've been giggling ever since.

    2) So You Think You Can Dance is like, the best show. Ever.

    3) You are totally right. Reality TV is stupid (except So You Think You Can Dance, because, well, I have a little bit of an obsession with it :D)

  3. Mr. Viking says:

I agree Justin, they almost seem too predictable.

  4. jim says:

girlfriends are for losers who can't look at porn

    • Mike Chapman says:

Hey now, there's no reason one can't enjoy both, as long as they never meet each other.

      • Steven says:

THE Mike Chapman?!? Hot bees, this is frickin' awesome!

Anyways, I can agree with you all too much Justin. Reality TV sucks more than a Dirt Devil, and it's way too predictable. Haha, there's always the one guy and the one chick who are way too perfect for eachother, but end up breaking up in the second-to-last episode of the season…

        • Mike Chapman says:

Hmm, I'm not aware of me being any particular Mike Chapman. If you're thinking of the co-creator of Homestarrunner.com, sadly, you are mistaken. But you're not the first person in this blog to do so.

Or… do I know you from somewhere?

        • Steven says:

Aw, silly me. Well then, you are indeed a lucky Mike to share a namesake with such a cool person.

        • Mike Chapman says:

          Other way around, man ;)

  5. April says:

dude, I love So You Think You Can Dance. But that's the only one I watch.

but I'm really, really scary when I watch it.

  6. Pinka says:

SYTYCD is a pretty awesome show. and reality TV is not all bad. when flipping channels its nice to catch a five second clip of a cat-fight… but then you click on!! it is not wise to spend more than five seconds watching something as mind-numbing as Big Brother or The Hills etc….

  7. Mikey-O says:

I don't care for American Idol or SYTYCD at all, however I do have my own addiction to Hells Kitchen, Rock of Love, and Celebrity Fit Club.

I'm still waiting for a reality show about talented guitar shredders.

  8. beaver says:

    you should come to England,

we have your crappy american ones, and our crappy english ones.

    big brother makes me sick.

    • Pinka says:

aww man but England has some super good shows like The IT Crowd and Karen Taylor!

    • Dale says:

hahahaha that comment is so true!!

BB is just the worst thing ever.

    • Moop :D says:

I totally agree with you!! BB is the worst pile of turd ever created!!! even worse than the X factor and that is saying something!!

sorry, does anyone get this last cartoon, i dont really.

  10. Matt says:

Chicks dig reality shows, especially about singing and dancing. Just look at the internet for three seconds.

If you know anything about the OC, American Idol, or any other bullshit reality show, you'll probably be able to get laid based on mindless conversation about the shows.

  11. Heidi says:

    Reality TV?

    Do not want!

  12. jen says:

I don't know if it is my poor memory, but for Season 1 of American Idol didn't they document the behind-the-scenes drama of the contestants? I swear I remember there was OMG DRAMA in the AI HOUSE! Or something like that. Thank goodness they stopped doing that. If they ever did. Gah I don't know.

  13. Jake says:

I've stopped calling reality shows reality shows, because in no way do they depict anything even remotely real anymore. Instead, I like to think of them as "Extreme game shows." I think that title is more fitting.

  14. Vindhya says:

    Hi Justin,

Just want to say I love your site and today's one in particular. I stop by every day before I start work to have a good laugh. Couldn't agree with you more about the lameness of Reality TV. Most of my housemates are glued on to them! I think its a waste of airtime and everyone's time actually…

    Thanks for the laughs.

    Cheers!

I hate all "reality TV." American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance are at the top of my hate list, followed by Rock of Love and any other "love" shows. I never thought, back in the day, that i would actually want sitcoms and the like to come back. Fear Factor was the worst show ever, and i would prefer to watch 2 weeks worth of that then watch a singe episode of So you think you can dance. Internet cartoons help me escape from the crap thats on TV so keep it up!

  16. Pinka says:

oohh i just remmebered another "wonderful" "reality TV" show. that one with Tia Tequila or whatever her name is, i saw a clip of it, and it scarred me for life. she was making her boyfriend's family eat gross stuff… and that is all i will say.

there was once a good reality TV show, i think it falls into said category even though it was scripted and fake. it ran one summer on Fox. Murder in Small Town X.

p.s.: i do agree that The OC sucks. it sucks so bad.

  17. Jon says:

Two words for you: Parking Wars. Detailing the daily life of the meter maid/boot guy/office workers.

It's the only reality show i've ever liked even a little, it had me cracking up. I think it comes on A&E.

  18. Beau says:

I tend to not like reality TV shows as well. BUT I totally had a dream once where I created a pretty rad reality TV show based around pirates called "Contraband." I actually drew my own little comic for it seen here if you're interested….

    (Sorry for shameless linkage)

  19. Kristine says:

Parking Wars! the only reality show worth watching! HAHAHA! I just love how bad-ass the meter maids get! Come on, really, would you reallt mouth off like that if the cameras weren't there?! So much comedy on that show!

    LHT Rocks!

  20. JMlover says:

Oh man! I LOVE So You Think You Can Dance. It really IS the best show ever. Your gf knows what she's talking about, Justin. Listen to her. :)
