Wall-mounting a TV
I just wall-mounted a TV today. However, I’m not totally confident in my work, even though I know I did everything right. I blame those commercials where the dude puts the TV on the wall, stands back for a second to admire his work and then watches the TV fall to the ground. They have made me doubt my abilities!
I wish I was kidding, but I’m just sitting here hoping that I don’t hear a crashing sound come from the other room.
Do you guys know anyone who had a TV fall off the wall? Does that actually actually happen in real life? I hope not.

No, but we did try ceilling-mounting a home projector. When we stepped back to admire our work the projector fell and smashed the dinky wooden chair I had been standing on. Some how the projector survived, soooo we just have a stool in the middle of the room for projector now.
The only thing that scares me more than wall mounts are ceiling mounts. Glad to hear the projector survived!
Yeah, I tried to put a tv up in my room once. I used a stud finder, it "claimed" to have found a stud, so I put the tv in. The second I stood back to admire, it fell. It did this FOUR TIMES.
Stud finders are just liars.
My tv ended up okay though
Dang, four times? That's one resilient TV!
If you're confident that you found the studs, then I think you'll be ok. I haven't had much or a problem with mine yet.
parachute cord – tie to solid point on wall (long screw) and solid point on tv (around the hanging things). 500 pound test means that 2 of these is a little insurance.
use duct tape, its pretty good at keeping roomates up on the walls
My cousins have had a few wall-mounted TVs and they've never had them fall, as far as I know. If they have the TV survived. I'm pretty sure you'll be alright, but if you've done all you can do then you can't do anything else, so there's no use worrying. Just enjoy your TV and if it falls, it falls, and probably won't break. If you're really worried, don't put anything under it until it's been there a couple weeks. Sounds to me like the guy above either had a faulty stud-finder or was just not doing that well of a job (no offense Michael Milton, I'm sure you did a better job than I could).
So yeah. Enjoy your TV and keep things out from under it for a couple weeks until you know it won't fall. Other than that, don't worry about it, because worrying won't make it not fall, it will just make you sad.
Hmm, I guess I'll have to move my bed of nails to somewhere else in the room…
no offense taken, the stud finder didn't really work at all, as it also detected studs on my lamp, a hat, and actually me, which cheered me up a bit.

I used to work with geek squad. People who do it them selfs do mess it up.. We had a guy wall mount his 56" plasma TV into DRY WALL ONLY. so It happens. But if it hasnt fallen already, it prolly wont…

Into only drywall? Dang. Now that's just silly. And a 56 inch TV? That dude is so lucky that the mount (and TV) didn't just tear out of the wall!
toggle bolts will allow for drywall only hanging should the studs not be in the right location. they take a bit more work but they hold a ton of weight.
When I wall mounted my TV, I put a mattress under it just in case it fell.
Forget studfinders. Just take a knuckle and rap on the wall a few times. It won't take long to locate those studs.
I tried it and it work well for me.
