Energy Drinks!

For some reason, I started drinking Monster Energy at the beginning of this year.  As a result, my mornings are now 10^(monsterenergy) times better, where monsterenergy is a number greater than or equal to one.  The downside is that I have one a day, every weekday, without exception.

Most people drink coffee, but this guy right here (me) is almost totally unaffected by normal amounts of caffeine.  Just the other night, I had a six hour comic session until about 5 am and ended up consuming two Monster Energies and one 5 hour energy and didn’t have my heart explode.

Am I the only one who can’t stop drinking these delicious things?  Oh man, I hope not!

Hope you are exercising to burn off all that sugar. Otherwise, you're gonna get fat.

  2. Tim says:

You're not the only one. They taste really good! Though they are significantly worse for you than caffeine. The thought of drinking them daily is a bit concerning (I only have them on special occasions, such as Rock Band parities).

  3. Nick says:

For those of us who don't drink coffee it's really the only viable option. Plus those things are freaking delicious.

  4. Roxy says:

They are tasty. The gas station near my work has them on sale all the time. Three of them for like four bucks. They are trying to kill meee.

  5. Sam says:

I drank so much of this stuff that some day i had some kind of an overdose. I was shaking all night an so for now on, i do not consume coffein anymore :)

We really have gotten shameless with our product-placement.

  7. Stefan says:

I do too; except I drink Beaver Buzz. I've started a can wall at work. It's getting quite impressive.

I go for RedBull, I don't think I like the Monster drinks (what flavours do you like?) But there's too much drink there anyway, and I'm consuming a lot of sugar with each can. Not so much caffeine though, way less than a starbucks coffee if you read the ingredients.

All about the green one, but probably because that's the one they sell in bulk at Sam's Club. Saving money is one of my favorite things to do. Another one of my favorite things to do is, of course, drinking Monster Energy.

I drank 6 Relentless during an all-nighter once, my heart hurt for the whole next day :(

Great in moderation though, just like coffee.

The green monsters are the best, in australia at least. Though I've had to stop myself from having them every single day.

I've wanted to try the nitros ones, but they don't have them over here. :/

Also, I miss the orangey juice one.

The green monster is my go to one, but I've actually never had any of the other types. I think you're right, I need to start branching out a little bit =)

Of the energy drinks, NOS is the one that most consistently gives me the caffeine shakes. I've recently switched to tea… It gives more focus than just energy.

that read like a paid promotion

      Whoops!

You know what else is pretty awesome? Q-Tips. And not the off-brand ones, I'm talking about the real Q-Tips. They are. The best.

Man, if you're drinking two cans of Monster in an five hour stretch you might as well break down and do some crank. That's SOOOO much sugar. Diabetic coma so much sugar.

The 5 hour energy shots aren't so bad, they're more just a big dose of B vitamins. It's why you don't get so jittery.

I sort of fell into the same Monster-related issue because coffee never worked, and then this awful thing called "college" came along. It's the only thing that gets me through ensembles without keeling over and dying from sheer boredom. Definitely try some of the other ones, though. The original green ones are delicious, but the Nitrous ones are like liquid, carbonated Sweet Tarts. They're also kind of a slap in the face, caffeine-wise. The blue ones can just bite me, though. Real men want real sugar.

I used to work for Pepsi Co. I'd drink 5-6 Rockstars in a 8 hour work period cause I could get them for .50 or so. It was bitchin'. Gave up caffiene a few years ago though now that I program.

P.S. If you have not had blue BAWLS you are not a man. http://www.bawls.com/

Delicious but dangerous. Sorta reminds me of that time I tried to eat a lion.

  18. Busalonium says:

I am drinking a can of monster right at this very moment.

  19. Kels says:

Hah! I used to be ADDICTED to them, since October. I finally quit them the beginning of March cause it's really unhealthy and I'm a tennis player…when not injured…haha. I replaced it with orange juice. It's really hard to do though. One occasionally doesn't hurt though.

  20. Monster!!!! says:

I used to drink three or four a day. Every other day. It was intense, and for the record, The Green Import's are the best.

  21. Leo says:

Guilty as charged! I used to be addicted same way you were, but the excess caffine can really do some damage, so I don't drink it during the week anymore, at least I try not too.

My favorite kind of Monster is a toss up between the Green Import and the Green(Dry)Nitros.

  22. Jake Tiedeman says:

I unfortunately share your energy drink addiction, Justin. I happen to be drinking one right now actually, it's my second one today too o_o

  23. Matt Pantoja says:

Throughout most of my high school life, i would have at least 2 a day. according to a friends aunt excess use like that can cause you to be nearly immune to pain killers, i dont know if thats absolutely true, but im pretty sure my heart has grown 19 sizes as a result.

  24. Michael says:

Monster actually has substantially less caffeine than a decent-sized mug of premium coffee. Compare Starbucks brewed coffee, which has around 21-22 mg/oz (depending on size, etc.; 250 mg caffeine in a typical 12 oz tall) to Monster Energy which has just 10 mg/oz (160 mg caffeine in a 16 oz can).

Monster also has some other energy "supplements," and some of them might contribute to your buzz somewhat, but caffeine is clearly the key ingredient.

Also, I am immune to caffeine (in reasonable quantities). Drank 750 mg in about 3 hours (3 cans of NOS) and didn't feel a thing. And it cost me like $10 or something. :(
