April 1st just happened, didn’t it?

April 1st, why do you always have to be such a crazy day?  Let us give you some back story.

So, on March 31st, we discovered we were having some billing issues with our hosting company.  Apparently, we were using way too much bandwidth!  That night, we figured out that if we removed all the images from the main pages, we could greatly reduce how much data we were transferring.  So at midnight on April 1st, we did what we had to do, which was to remove all the images and convert all our comics into ASCII art.

Exactly 24 hours after that moment, something amazing happened.  Instantly, all of our bandwidth issues were resolved and we didn’t have to worry about how much data we were transferring anymore!  It was so strange that it happened at the moment it was no longer April 1st, but we’re not complaining.

We’ve had some crazy stuff happen on April 1st in the past.  In 2008, we had a big fight and in 2009, someone let the bees out all over the site.  Even last year, we started up Right-Handed Toons, but came right back to LHT after the 24 hours of April 1st were up.  So weird!

Awww, you guys seriously always have the best April Fools jokes. I’m so glad you wrote this post; I missed on on the ASCII stuff on Friday.

Hmm, something is fishy about this bandwidth story. I checked the size of the text comic and it was 143 kilobytes — three times *larger* than the image version. I suppose that's what happens when you don't use compression. Your web hosting company probably realised this so they let you continue serving the image version.

I feel, somehow, that this was not drawn with ones left hand! Unless, you have become magically better, then, mysteriously worse…. a trick?
